APPLIANCE SERVICE CENTERS LONG
HISTORY IN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA.
Appliance Service Center was established when Marc Fearnehough and his Step father, Tex Prichard purchased the service department from a local furniture store that no longer wanted to be in the service business. Tex had been the service manager of the store's service department since 1952. The business started in 1974 with Marc and Tex as field technicians, a secretary/dispatcher/calltaker and a shop man. Tex retired many years ago and Marc took over the business with the help of a very competent staff both inside and in the field. We expanded the business in Santa Cruz and in 1989 bought an established service business in Castroville to extend our service area to the south. Our plans were slowed by the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, which caused a lot of damage in our area. With the rebuilding of the downtown area moving slowly after the earthquake, Appliance Service Center moved to its present location in 1991.
WIDE AREA OF COVERAGE
The Castroville store is used for support of technicians working in the Southern and Eastern service areas as well as a location to refurbish used appliances and provide service training. Castroville also hosts service training that is provided by manufacturers as well as Company training for new technicians. Because of the central location, five other service companies are also invited to attend the factory-sponsored training. This allows for interaction between the technicians from different companies and strengthens Appliance Service Centers' position as the premier company in the area.
CONTINUALLY GROWING AND PROSPERING
The business has grown, prospered, and made it through some tough times because of membership in trade associations and interaction with other servicers in the industry. Marc has been a member of trade associations since 1976. The money he spends to attend association and peer group functions returns many times the cost in new profit opportunities. He was one of the founders of United Servicers Association and one of the original members of the West Coast Peer Group.
